First released in 1942, the Angelus Chronodate is a truly storied name in the history of watches. It would have been easy for Angelus to recreate this cult model as an exact replica, a pretty vintage-styled 38mm chronograph. Instead, they did something much more exciting and significant, housing the new Chronodate in a sporty 42.5mm case and adding a healthy dash of contemporary influence into the historically-inspired design. The result is a watch full of intriguing dynamic tension.

While the case of this 25-piece limited edition is incredible, complicated and worthy of your attention alone, it’s the dial that’s likely to take your breath away. Salmon dials have become something of a house speciality here at Revolution, and this rich grené-finished example, with its prominent counters and applied Arabic numerals, is one of the finest we’ve seen. Finally, to celebrate in style, each watch will come with a bottle from the watchmaker’s namesake, the prestigious Château Angélus, a Grand Crus Bordeaux vineyard. This tasty association is also where the name "Angels' Share" springs from.

Starring Role

The custom rotor proudly bears the Angelus ‘A’, as well as the five-pointed star that is a key visual symbol for both Angelus and Revolution. To make it stand out even more, the star has been filled with lume, turning it into a veritable shooting star.

The Driving Force

Powering this powerhouse of a watch is the A-500, a caliber originally based on the venerable Valjoux 7750, but visually distinguished by handsome sandblasted NAC-treated bridges and column wheel, and offering 60 hours of power reserve.

Gorgeous Grené

Salmon dials are already stunning creations, but adding a softly textured grené finish, achieved via 6N gold plating of a brass dial, takes them to a whole new level. These warm tones form the perfect base for the strong contrasts of the Chronodate dial design.

Sleight of Hand

On paper, the case measures 42.5mm across and 14.25mm high, but in reality, it wears like a smaller watch, thanks to the complicated case geometry and lightweight material. The angled lugs, in particular, make this watch feel more slender on the wrist.
