Revolution turns 20 this year. In our two decades covering the industry, we've seen the peaks and troughs of cyclical trends, but one quality has remained evergreen: refinement. For our series of limited editions celebrating this milestone, Revolution goes back to basics to celebrate the best of elegance and craft.

Our first collaboration with independent Japanese watchmaker Naoya Hida & Co. embodies just that. Based on the brand's Type 3 model, this 37mm dress piece pairs a 3N yellow gold stepped bezel, hands and crown with stainless steel middle case.

The star of the show is the hand-engraved moonphase disk at 3 o'clock. The disk is made of 18K yellow gold, micro-bead-blasted for texture, and hand-engraved with the brand's signature 'benevolent' moon and stars by master engraver Keisuke Kano. It's complete with our signature Revolution star similarly hand-filled red cashew lacquer. The dial is formed from German silver and features meticulously engraved Roman numerals, filled with warm-toned urushi cashew lacquer. Its layered construction reveals stepped levels with polished transitions, giving the surface depth and architectural precision. Time is read via elegant 18k gold feuille-style hands, hand-finished with to a mirror polish.

The piece features a solid caseback with a screw-in pattern reminiscent of water resistant or “étanche” casebacks made by the likes of Borgel and others in the ’40s. Inside is a movement that takes as its base the Valjoux 7750 but is reworked into a manual winding caliber with its own signature baseplate. Naoya Hida & Co. selected this movement for the perfect positioning of the sub-seconds indicator, removing both the chronograph mechanism and automatic winding components. The winding experience is further refined with a custom click spring to enhance both the feel and sound.

Each element of the Rising Star is a statement of style, and the result of painstaking handcraft. In the words of Hida-san himself, “We work with passion, happiness and dignity… to create the best watches possible according to what we love.”

Though the Rising Star was created in a limited-edition of 10 pieces, only one remains unspoken for. To enter the lottery, please register your interest — and we’ll be in touch if you are selected.

HAND-CRAFTED DETAILS

Every detail reflects a dedication to traditional craftsmanship, with hand-finished elements that bring depth and refinement. The Roman indices, meticulously hand-engraved, are filled with cashew urushi — a deep, glossy black lacquer that enhances their visual richness. The same technique extends to the outermost ring, with black cashew urushi marking each minute. At 6 o'clock, an 18k yellow gold moonphase disk showcases a hand-engraved moon, stars, and a signature Revolution star, the latter filled with striking red lacquer for our own spin. Completing this detail, the hand-bent minute hand is carefully angled downward, ensuring a precise and elegant alignment with the minute track.

DANCING DIAL

The microbead-blasted German silver dial sets a wonderfully textured backdrop for showcasing the brand's craft capabilities. The Roman numerals are meticulously hand-engraved, then filled with cashew urushi — a deep, glossy black lacquer that enhances their richness and legibility. This technique continues onto the outer minute track, where each marker is similarly filled with black cashew urushi for visual harmony.

SWISS MOVEMENT

Beating at the heart of the watch is the hand-wound Cal. 3021LU — a heavily reworked interpretation of the legendary Valjoux 7750. Long used as a platform for some of the most complex mechanical watches, from perpetual calendars to rattrapante chronographs, the 7750 was selected for its proven reliability and long-term serviceability. Here, it is reborn as a manual-winding caliber, stripped of its automatic and chronograph functions and rebuilt with a custom three-quarter plate, a refined balance cock, and a moonphase module developed exclusively for this watch. A bespoke click and spring elevate the winding experience, offering a crisp, tactile feedback. The oversized yellow gold crown completes the interaction — each turn met with a satisfying mechanical click. It has been heavily modified to remove the automatic winding system and chronograph functions, with the addition of a moonphase module, custom 3/4 plate, balance cock, custom click and spring. Oversized yellow gold crown makes for a crisp, tactile hand-winding experience, with every click of each teeth satisfyingly transmitted to the wearer.

NOT YOUR AVERAGE STEEL

The case is crafted from 904L stainless steel — a premium alloy prized for its superior resistance to corrosion and its ability to achieve a higher polish than traditional 316L. This material choice allows for a luminous surface finish, lending the watch an added layer of refinement. Polished lugs contrast against the brushed case flanks, introducing a subtle play of light and texture. The closed caseback supports the watch’s clean, sculptural silhouette, while a matching 904L brushed buckle ensures material continuity down to the finest detail. With a 20mm lug width and a 44mm lug-to-lug measurement, the balanced proportions feel comfortably suited to all wrist sizes.
